Gavin backs Derek's re-election bid for Holyrood 2016
Gavin Newlands, the MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has today backed Derek Mackay MSP’s re-election bid for his seat of Renfrewshire North and West in the Scottish Parliament election.
Derek Mackay MSP was unanimously re-selected as the SNP candidate for the Renfrewshire North and West constituency for next year’s Scottish Parliament election in mid-July. He has been the constituency MSP since 2011, whilst also serving as the Minister for Local Government and Planning from 2011 until 2014 and currently serves as the Minister for Transport and Islands.
Gavin Newlands, the MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:
“I am delighted that Derek has been re-selected as our candidate for Renfrewshire North and West in the upcoming Scottish Parliament elections next year.
“Derek has been a strong champion for the people of Renfrewshire since 1999 when he was first elected to Renfrewshire Council and has been a hard-working MSP and government minister since being elected to the Scottish Parliament in 2011. I look forward to working together for the benefit of the people of Renfrewshire.”
“I look forward to joining Derek out on the doorstep throughout the Scottish Parliament election campaign and helping return a strong voice for Renfrewshire to Holyrood.
Derek Mackay, the MSP for Renfrewshire North and West, said:
“The SNP has earned the trust of the people and I am delighted to be selected to be the candidate for the 2016 Scottish Parliament elections.
“I was delighted to see Gavin elected as the MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North and I can safely say that we will make a strong team for the area. We offer a dynamic duo in the North, delivering for people in matters both national and local.”
