Gavin Newlands MP celebrates Nurses’ Day 2018
Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has celebrated the work of nursing staff in the UK and around the world at an event in the UK Parliament.
At the event in parliament, Gavin Newlands MP, met frontline nurses as part of the RCN’s International Nurses’ Day celebrations on Wednesday 25 April. The event, in Parliament, provided nurses with the opportunity to speak directly to MPs about the range of issues that they experience in the daily working lives.
Nurses’ Day is an international event held annually on Florence Nightingale’s birthday (12 May). This year the RCN is showcasing nurses’ dedication to delivering outstanding patient care and the innovative and diverse roles nurses have in healthcare teams.
The RCN is also encouraging nursing staff to use the hashtag #ThisNurse to share stories of colleagues who went the extra mile to provide patient care and times which reminded them why there are nursing in 2018.
Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:
“Nurses’ Day, which is held on Saturday 12th of May, is a fantastic occasion to show our support and appreciation for the fantastic work that our nurses perform in our health service each and every day.
“Nurses’ Day is an opportunity for all of us to thank our nurses for the excellent care that they provide to those in their care. When friends and family have cause to use the NHS, I am always incredibly impressed at the hard work and dedication of all NHS staff, and with many friends and family members being nurses, I am fully aware of the pressures placed upon our nurses.
“I encourage everyone to celebrate the remarkable work of nursing staff in Renfrewshire and across the UK.”
